SETTING

Good friend neighbors meet on the street walking their dogs.

 

STEVE: It can’t be true.

 

MATT:  It is.

 

STEVE: Just can’t be.  I don’t believe it. No way.

 

MATT: I’m telling you, it’s true.

 

STEVE: You’re lying.

 

MATT:  Why would I lie about a thing like that?

 

STEVE: Because you like to mess with people’s heads.

 

MATT:  Well, this time I ain’t messing with ya. If you don’t believe me, then go check it out.

 

STEVE: I’m late for work.

 

MATT: Just go look for yourself, will ya?

 

STEVE: Ok, ok, stop pestering me.

 

Steve and Matt walk down the block to the house at the end of the street on the cul-de-sac.

 

STEVE: Damn.  You weren’t messing with me – they painted their house purple.  Well, there goes the neighborhood.
