If I can turn my life around then you can turn your life around too!
Although I certainly have my days where I go “woe is me” (I am human after all) most of the time I am now able to maintain a positive and hopeful attitude even through the most challenging of times where life is unexpected, unrecognizable and unfathomable (like today when my teenage son is refusing to go to school a week before end of the year finals…oye).
I speak these words because I’ve learned and truly believe that I can accept, allow and appreciate anything as long as I want to and decide to! Life just happens. Optimism is a choice.
If you want to turn your life around, then don’t let what happens rule you, rule what happens to you!
My course and my writing are all a result of many, many years of working towards turning my life around.
I know that although I am uniquely me, I am also an avatar for many people who are choosing to turn their life around because they are excited to grow and fulfill their purpose. The way I see it, being human is about all of us being here to learn from and support each other as we individually and collectively work to turn our lives around.
I am not here to help you “get stuff.” My intent (although if it happens that’s pretty cool) is not to teach you how to make a million dollars or build a multi-national business or find the love of your life.
What I can and hope you will allow me to do, is to share with you awesome resources and revelations that contribute to a confident beingness – a sense of self that feels pretty darn great.
But Ali, how can I turn my life around without stuff?
Even without the millions
Even without the big house
Even without the fancy cars
Even without tons of employees
Even without vacations to exotic places
Even without the clear skin
I feel pretty darn great.
This is where I want to inspire people. Not on how to make tons of money and get tons of things, but how to feel great with what you have while always having dreams and aspirations that help to turn your life around, as well as keep you evolving and enjoying being here on planet earth.
My intent – as my life – is simple and basic. Share what you have, eat chocolate once a week, schmush your kids and your pets, smile at the person in the toll booth on the highway, dance, and appreciate, appreciate, appreciate!
Anxiety relieving mindfulness exercise for anywhere, anytime to turn your life around…
I spent most of my life feeling ashamed for having anxiety issues. In the past, when I started to get anxious, I would tell myself “in spite of.” “In spite of” this anxiety I am going to drive to Manhattan, for example. Just those three little words – In spite of – set up a resistant energy that would undoubtedly knock me off my feet as I believed I had to “war” with the anxiety to overcome it. I was unwittingly beating myself up AND experiencing anxiety issues that wreaked havoc on my system.
Once I started learning to have these anxious moments “in addition to” whatever I was doing, I set up a more compassionate and kind attitude towards all the parts of myself. It was the beginning of a major “turn your life around” experience for me. I brought my anxiety along for the ride, and in doing so, the anxiety energy relaxed and chilled out as opposed to freaking me the frigg out!
1 – Anytime you find yourself starting to get anxious, tell yourself that “in addition to” whatever you are doing or thinking, that you also anxious about something. For example “In addition to washing the dishes, I am feeling anxious about falling asleep tonight.” Or, “In addition to driving to the city, I am feeling anxious about getting stuck in the tunnel.”
2 – Try to smile and have some compassion for your anxious little being and invite the feeling to join you in whatever you’re doing. Invite your anxiety to turn it’s life around too!
3 – Ask your anxious being to join you to speak about exactly what you’re doing in the moment. For example “Anxiety and I are washing the dishes, anxiety and I are washing the dishes, anxiety and I are washing the dishes.” The goal is to focus on the part of your experience that is working for you and where you are being centered and focused. Bring that anxious being along into the centeredness and focus. You can even sing a little tune with these words to help lighten up the energy and turn your life around…
4 – If you find the anxiety rising up again, repeat the process SLOWLY from step number 1.
