What does love feel like? “I wanna know what love is!” (Thank you Foreigner)
“What does love feels like? I don’t care how many love poems, love sayings, love quotes, love songs, or love guru’s there are out there, as far as I’m concerned, there are truly no words that can describe the feeling of love. So if anyone asks me “what does love feel like?” I will tell them that love is simply LOADS OF VIBRANT ENERGY!!!
Can happy love quotes and sayings inspire us?
Sure, we can read and be inspired to think we understand what love feels like, but it’s not the real thing. I believe that the closest we get to being able to express what love feels like, is to share stories of moments that we have experienced “Loads Of Vibrant Energy.”
Below is a sharing of one of those moments. A very significant birthday a couple of years ago….
Here’s what love feels like for Ali…
My college sophomore, Lexi, facebooked me last night to wish me a happy pre-birthday. She told me that she loves me “too much” and that I raise her up. Whoa, I raise her up. Pretty cool.
Midnight and meaning
I stayed up the night before my birthday cleaning up my office and waiting for midnight to come. I wanted to be awake when I was shifted from 364 to 365 days of this past year.
So many feelings swirled through me as I remembered exactly a year ago that day when I was flat on my back, hooked up to an IV and waiting to have my gallbladder removed exactly on my 50th birthday.
A year of so much pain and fear yet so much healing and awareness and “unknownness” popping up all around that I am now dealing with better than ever.
I wanted to feel who I was and allow all the feelings to “rise up” and show themselves to me. I wanted to find the meaning in the tribulations as well as appreciation for the blessings they brought to me. I wanted to understand the meaning of love, of loving myself way beyond anything I had every experienced before: I wanted to consciously step into another year of a fuller me TODAY.
I wasn’t sure how, but I felt it coming..
Although many tears of both grief and appreciation flowed, after the clock struck midnight, I couldn’t grasp or remember or make sense of the enormity of this year’s events. I just felt empty, quiet, dark and contemplative. So I surrendered to the nothingness and took a deep breath. I wasn’t sure what the coming daylight would bring, but I knew that I had a deep desire to feel the meaning of this past year. I wasn’t sure how, but I felt it coming.
That morning I awoke and listened to my 15 minute Abraham meditation, then started my “unknownness” day. I was going to be open to “whatever” and let it “raise me up.”
Whatever! Going with the flow….
Although I had other plans on how I wanted to receive my presents, Chaz insisted that I open up my presents and cards before breakfast – not at dinner as I had requested. I thought “this is my birthday and why can’t we just do it my way?” but I stayed committed to “whatever,” acquiesced, and surrendered to his intense desire for me to start the party NOW.
What does love feel like from family?
Chaz bought me this beautiful jewelry box that had a butterfly and three flowers on it. He told me that the butterfly was me and the three flowers were Jamie, Lexi and him. This box represents my connection with my family – that through all the challenges we’ve had these past years, we’re still here, we’re still loving each other, and getting closer with each annual revolution of the planet around the sun.
What does love feel like towards oneself?
Then Jamie gave me a magnificently framed poster of a mandala that he created to reflect the 7 chapters in the personal growth course I created. This artwork represented the me I have become these past 365 days. The me I want to be. The me I am forever expanding and opening up to. The Wholy Shift.
What does love feel like from the energy of all that is?
Then Chaz gave me a Buddha from his collection. A happy, rotund, jolly figure that is a symbol of the God that I am a child of, am learning to know, and that I am learning to be.
My birthday gift that year? Understanding The Triumverate of Love: Family, Self, God
I discovered that day that for me, there are 3 elements to love: Family, Self, and God. I call it The triumvirate of LOADS OF VIBRANT ENERGY that raises me up! Everyday in every way…
