Going Head To Head

CHARACTERS: Ali and Joe

SETTING: Ali and Joe are neighbors. Standing in the street in front of Ali and Joe’s house.

Ali: So sorry about your grandma Joe.

Joe: Thanks Ali.  She was 96 and had a good run.  She was ready to go.

Ali:  Peacefully I hope.

Joe: Actually, in her sleep the first night of hospice.

Ali: Were you guys close?

Joe: Yep, she was a good lady.

Ali: Was the funeral here?

Joe: No in North Carolina – but she was flown back here to be buried with her husband head to head.

Ali:  Head to head? 

Joe: He was buried feet first, with his head at the bottom of the casket.  Grandma will be placed in the same casket head first, so that she and grandpa’s heads are touching – head to head.  They put this plan together way back in 1970’s.

Ali: Before you were even born!

Joe chuckles.

Joe: Well, we’re off for a family dinner.

Ali:  Enjoy!  And thanks to you and your grandparents for giving me a whole new perspective on going head to head…
